Is Ringworm Really As Scary As It Sounds?
Ringworm is a common infection of the skin, caused by fungus called dermatophytes. Its name comes from the usual shape of the lesions that develop, not because there are worms under the skin. The medical term for ringworm is actually tinea. Depending on which body region the infection is found, the name can differ slightly.
